Shelano was founded by a couple from New Zealand in 2000, who sought a better life for the young women in Calcutta, India struggling to survive in the railway slums. By providing a dignified, sustainable wage, they've empowered these women to start their own businesses, providing skills training in design, sewing and embroidery. Having grown from a simple idea to helping poor women to help themselves, they have blossomed into a successful business that the women proudly manage themselves!
