Indigenous women founded Artesanas Campesinas in 1991 to withstand the forces of globalization that threaten traditional Mexican artisan markets. From the rural craft-producing village of Tecalpulco, Guerrero, the women empower themselves through this successful co-op as their husbands migrate to the U.S. for work. They can now educate their children with the fair wage they earn, while keeping alive their traditional designs and skills… connecting their past to an even brighter future!
